Name: Archinard family.

Historical Note:

The Archinard family is an old Louisiana family; both John Joseph Archinard's (1901-1967) paternal and maternal ancestors came to New Orleans in the 1770s. Several of the Archinard family were outstanding in the field of medicine. John Joseph Archinard's father was president of the New Orleans Parish Medical Society and was a professor of medicine at Tulane University. Two of his uncles were also professors at Tulane University in medicine and dentistry. John Joseph Archinard, an alumnus of Tulane Medical School, was a professor of clinical medicine at Tulane University and he served with the 24th General Hospital (the Tulane Unit) during World War II. He married Lieutenant Claudia Weaver, later Mrs. John L. Toler.

Claudia Weaver, formerly married to John James Archinard, was married to John L. Toler, a New Orleans lawyer. Toler was a partner in the firm of Chaffe, McCall, Philips, Toler and Sarpy. He served on the board of directors of D.H. Holmes Company, and Valentine Sugars. He was born in Pensacola, Florida and grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi and Tulane University School of Law and was a member of the New Orleans and American Bar Associations. During World War II he served in the Coast Guard in the Port of New Orleans and reached the rank of lieutenant-commander. He was a member of the Boston Club, the Louisiana Club, and several carnival organizations.
