Name: Raymond, Clara Compton.

Historical Note: Clara Compton Raymond (1857 [8?]-1950) was the daughter of Dr. Thomas Compton of New Orleans. Her mother died at or near her birth and she was raised by her grandmother and aunt. Her grandmother was Mrs. Horatio Sprigg. Clara Compton married Thomas Laidlow Raymond. Raymond apparently spent her childhood in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, during the Civil War, the post-war years in Switzerland, and then returned home to Rapides Parish during Reconstruction.
