This collection contains manuscripts, letters, and scrapbooks from Mary Land's work as a nature and food writer, as well as information on food and the culinary history of Louisiana and Mexico. Also included are files on child rearing, menus from selected restaurants, correspondence with Walter McIlhenny about Tabasco, and prints by Morris Henry Hobbs. A related collection contains the books Land used in the writing of Louisiana Cookery and New Orleans Cuisine.

This collection contains material relating to the Equal Rights Amendment, including material specifically from Louisiana such as newspaper clippings, pamphlets from political organizations such as NOW, and papers from agencies such as the Citizens' Advisory Council on the Status of Women. One box contains materials organized by different areas of law that would be affected by the ERA, and another contains information, organized by year, on attempts to ratify the amendment.

This material was collected by Michot-Ceballos during her involvement in the women's movement in New York City between 1967-1979. Included are books, educational materials, clippings, articles, early issues of Aphra, newsletters of NOW and other organizations, preview copies of Our Bodies, Ourselves, and several recordings of important events. Also included are Michot's personal files, which contain many fliers, pamphlets, reports, as well as correspondence, information on several topics and individuals, and business material.

This collection contains materials relating to Mindy Milam's presidency of the Jefferson Parish Chapter of the National Organization for Women (1976 -1979), including personal correspondence, newspaper clippings, and organizational documents. Also included are publications from both the national and the Louisiana chapters of NOW, with particular attention given to the Head and Master Law and sex segregation in public schools.

This collection contains records of the Newcomb alumnae office, as well as scrapbooks, unpublished autobiographies, personal papers, and letters of Newcomb students, alumnae, faculty, and staff. Dance cards, greeting cards made by the Art Department, student drawings of college insignia, jewelry designs, and pottery motifs are also included.

They also include letters written back to the college, wedding and birth announcements, and other papers which document the continuing interest as well as social and professional histories of the alumnae.

This collection includes tapes from an ongoing project to document the lives of Newcomb alumnae, staff, and faculty; tapes focusing on the significant contributions made by local women to their fields of endeavor; and tapes concerning domestic work in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida.


40. Newcomb Relief Unit
1918-1922

These records span the years between 1918 and 1922, with the bulk of the material dating from July 1918 to July 1919. Included are correspondence, minutes, clippings, applications, and financial reports produced during the formation and operation of the Newcomb Relief Unit, as well as during the creation of the Relief Unit scholarship fund. The Newcomb Relief Unit was one of the several teams from women's colleges prepared by national organizations to go to Europe after World War I.
