GPabst began her career with The Washington Post in 1949 as the copy editor and assistant editor of the Women's Pages, later becoming a very influential book editor for the newspaper. This collection includes information on that career, as well as clippings of all the columns she wrote as a student correspondent to two local New Orleans newspapers.

46. Richard, Lena

Lena Richard's work as a caterer, restaurant owner, entrepreneur, and cookbook
author is detailed in this collection of photographs, guest books, clippings,
and other memorabilia. A New Orleans resident for most of her life, Richard
also worked in upstate New York and in the first restaurant at Colonial
Williamsburg. In both places, she gained considerable fame as a cook, and her
papers document an extraordinary path of life from New Roads, Louisiana to work
as one of the first televised cooking show hosts.


47. Robinson, Martha Gilmore
1909-1980

Martha Gilmore Robinson worked for many different political and social causes. Her accomplishments include founding and organizing Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre, presiding over the Louisiana Landmarks Society, being a member of the Place Pontalba commission, acting as administrative consultant to the New Orleans Cultural Commission for Gallier Hall, and being the vice chair of the Battle of New Orleans Sesquicentennial Celebration Commission. This collection includes assorted clippings, 24 photographs, and a sketch.

The collection consists of a wide variety of records dealing with Adele Salzer's association with Newcomb College. Examples of these records include various publications, class agent materials, information on the oral history project, and materials pertaining to various Newcomb and Tulane academic departments.

This collection contains materials relating to Karline Tierney's ERA activities and involvement. The bulk of this collection consists of personal correspondence, newspaper clippings, and organizational documents from the women's organizations in which Tierney was an active member. Also included are several membership lists of her various organizations and the publications of national, state, and local chapters of these women's organizations. The collection would be of particular interest to those researching the ERA in Louisiana and the various organizations and coalitions involved in the ratification effort.

Manuscripts and papers that Sheila Tobias saved and donated compose the bulk of this collection. The material may be helpful to researchers interested in the education of women, the education of women in math and sciences, pedagogical debates, the writing and teaching styles of Sheila Tobias, the writing process, or the feminist personal library. Also, books within this collection contain inscriptions by notable women scholars and Tobias's hand-written notes.

This collection contains the records of the organization formed to establish an exhibit on the achievements of women at the Louisiana World Exposition held in New Orleans in 1984. The collection includes more than 250 individual biographical files on women important in world history and over 500 biographical files on women from across the U.S. The collection also includes two detailed journals concerning thoughts and feelings about the organization.
