Primarily correspondence and other documents of William Cole Harrison (1841-1926) concerning his lifelong friendship with Eliza Jane Poitevent Holbrook Nicholson (1844?-1896). Harrison, a Louisiana native, served in the Confederate army and, after the Civil War, became a pharmacist in New Orleans. In 1882, he earned his medical degree from the University of Louisiana. He moved to Los Angeles circa 1888. Eliza Jane Poitevent, who wrote poems under the name "Pearl Rivers," became the editor / publisher of the New Orleans Picayune. Poitevent married twice, to Alva Morris Holbrook in 1872 and George Nicholson in 1878.

He died in Honduras where he fled to escape prosecution of embezzlement in 1889. Burke's wife and his son predeceased him, resulting in Burke's estate being inherited by nephews, nieces, et al. including W.E. Hawkins, 1862-1937, native of Greenwood, LA and a member of the Texas Supreme Court.
