Richard Ferchaud papers, 1939-1946 | Louisiana Research Collection

Scope and Contents: This collection consists of letters written by Richard Ferchaud, identified as Tad, to his older sister Marguerite Ferchaud, identified as Tudy, over the course of Richard's service in World War II.  The majority of the correspondence occurs from 1944-1946, during which time Richard was deployed to Europe.  His original deployment was in England; however, following D-Day, he was deployed to continental Europe and was wounded in France in 1944.  The majority of Richard's deployment was spent in England, France, Belgium, and Germany; however, he was in other areas of Europe as well.  The letters portray life in the military during World War II, including soldiers' needs, concerns, political beliefs, homesickness, and some daily activities.
