Brief Description: This collection consists of various letters, contracts, legal proceedings, poetry, newspaper clippings, and other written records pertaining to the Thiel family, from the early 1800s to the 1960s, as well as a large collection of photographs of the Thiel family, their various estates, and scenes from New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Carnival, and the Mississippi River. The Thiel family were the proprietors of the United States Bonded Warehouse Company, later the United Warehouse Company Limited, in New Orleans, as well as prominent land owners and members of high society in New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

Biographical Note for Thiel family : The Thiel family, based in New Orleans and Baton Rouge from the early 1800s to the 1950s, were proprietors of the United States Bonded Warehouse Company, later the United Warehouse Company Limited, and the owners of a significant portion of land in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and surrounding areas. The family consisted of Charles Augustus Thiel, who moved to Baton Rouge after serving in a Missouri regiment during the Civil War to work as an internal revenue agent, his wife Emma Nephler Thiel, and their children Charles A. Thiel Jr. and Daisy Thiel Govan. They were closely connected with the Nephler family, a prominent family of lawyers, and the Schoonmaker family at the time.
