Brief Description: The collection consists of photocopies of letters, clippings, obituaries, and genealogical information of the Pierson family of Bienville, Winn, and Natchitoches Parishes of Louisiana. Much of the material relates to the career and family life of David Pierson (b. 1837), a member of the Louisiana Secession Convention, a Confederate officer, and Louisiana district judge. He was an opponent of secession and voted against it during the convention. The collection also contains the genealogies of relates families, including the Collins, Morris, Oswalt, Pipes, and Wells families.

Biographical Note for Pierson family. : The Pierson family comes from the Bienville, Winn, and Natchitoches Parishes of Louisiana. David Pierson (1837-1900) was a member of the Louisiana Secession Convention. He was an opponent of secession and voted against it during the convention. He later joined the Confederate Army, serving with the 3rd Louisiana Infantry in Louisiana and Mississippi. After the war, he practiced law in Winnfield, Louisiana, and then in 1868 moved to Natchitoches. He served as District Judge from 1876 to 1892. The Pierson family is related to the Collins, Morris, Oswalt, Pipes, and Wells families.
