New Orleans Lawn Tennis Club records, 1876-1985 | Louisiana Research Collection

This collection consists of business records, articles of incorporation, financial documents, correspondence, membership lists, minutes, original and reproduction photographs of member groups and tournament play, negatives, slides, a patch, a certificate, clippings and other printed material. Included is the fall 1985 issue of Southern Tennis which includes an article on the history of the organization. An alternate name sometimes used in the twentieth century is the New Orleans Lawn Tennis Association.

The New Orleans Lawn Tennis Club is the oldest tennis club in the Americas. It was founded in 1876 by a small group of English cotton merchants living in New Orleans who were tennis enthusiasts. The club's facilities have been located in various places through the nineteenth, twentieth and twenty-first centuries, including Phillip St., Saratoga St., and Laurel St.
