Provosty and LeDoux families papers, 1822-1949 | Louisiana Research Collection

Scope and Contents: The collection consists of correspondence, legal documents, successions, a diary, and biography and genealogical information relating to the Provosty and Ledoux families. The correspondence mainly concerns family matters and most of it is between Adèle Ledoux  Provosty and her cousins in France, Alice de Meaulne and Emma Hall. There is also a typescript of a diary by John W. Laurans, of Pointe Coupée, covering the period 1854-1860. Also included are genealogical charts; original and copies of family documents; French and Canadian history; Canadian and Pointe Coupée census; index cards; correspondence and xerox copies of correspondence; photographs and newspaper clippings gathered by LaVerne "Pike" Thomas in preparation for a book on the LeDoux family. Emphasis of this part of the collection is on genealogy from the early LeDoux family of France through the 18th century in Pointe Coupée Parish into the 20th century.
